Rotterdam based indie rock outfit BERTHAJU are stepping into a defining chapter with the announcement of their upcoming 5 Year Plan (5YP) EP positioning the project as both statement and strategy.
Following growing momentum across the European live circuit, the band’s next move deliberately scale the sound, formalise the vision and build long term trajectory.

The EP arrives alongside a key structural shift as BERTHAJU have officially signed to Shai Records, marking their transition from emerging act to developing roster priority.
The rollout begins with the title track “5 Year Plan”, released May 6, described as leaning into a more grungy, punk-driven sound a noticeable evolution from their earlier indie textures.
BERTHAJU have consistently framed themselves around:
Female gaze perspective
High energy, choreographed live shows
Narrative focus songwriting with edge
The band’s reputation has largely been built in physical spaces such as festival circuits, showcases and grassroots touring where their performances are described as “full-on” and physically charged.
The challenge and opportunity of this EP will be clear in time and we think they can:
Translate live intensity into recorded output
Retain identity while scaling production
Convert audience energy into repeat listening
5 Year Plan isn’t subtle rather it’s about execution and that combination positions 5YP as a development project with commercial intent.
